Plastering, painting and decorative finishes in Auckland and NZ

We prioritise Auckland Central, the North Shore, West, East and South Auckland, and serve projects across New Zealand. From residential repaints to commercial interiors, agree the preparation, ordinary painting and decorative finish as separate parts of the brief. Site visits, travel and access are planned around the property.

Plastering & surface preparation

GIB stopping, skim coating and Level 5 finishing.

GIB stopping & repairs
Joint treatment, fastener finishing and agreed local repairs to plasterboard walls and ceilings. Movement or moisture damage is assessed before cosmetic repair.
Skim coating
A thin overall coat helps create a more consistent surface texture before decoration. Existing coatings and substrate condition determine the preparation needed.
Level 5 finishing
A coordinated plasterboard finish for demanding lighting or paint choices. Framing, lining and joint preparation matter alongside the skim coat; it is not a promise of perfect flatness under every light.
Sanding, sealing & priming
Controlled sanding, dust removal and compatible primers prepare the surface for the selected paint or decorative system.

Decorative plaster creates the visible final texture. Stopping and skim coating prepare the underlying surface. We define both parts of the scope before work begins.

Residential and commercial painting.

New-build coatings, occupied-home refreshes and commercial repainting are planned around the condition of the surface, access and the time needed between coats.

Interior painting

Walls, ceilings, doors, trims and existing joinery surfaces in homes and commercial interiors. Choose colour, sheen and washability around light, touch points and use.

Allow for furniture protection, repairs, ventilation, drying and the condition of the existing coating.

Commercial painting

Offices, shops, cafes, clinics and shared spaces, from new fit-outs to staged repaints. Coordinate finish durability, access and reopening with the business.

High-touch areas, cleaning products and after-hours work affect the coating and programme.

Exterior painting

Weatherboards, compatible masonry, soffits, doors and exterior trim. The coating is selected for the substrate and the building’s exposure.

Assess existing paint, moisture and damaged material; plan cleaning, compatible primers, access and weather windows.

Roof painting & coatings

Repainting and protective coating for suitable roof substrates following condition and compatibility checks.

Identify leaks, corrosion and repairs separately. Cleaning, rust treatment, compatible primer, safe access and suitable weather come before the topcoat.

Fence painting

Timber and suitable metal fence coatings, including colour refreshes and finishes coordinated with the building exterior.

Check timber condition and moisture, metal corrosion, existing coatings and access to both sides. Cleaning and preparation determine the result.

Care after completion

We identify the selected coating, cure period and appropriate routine cleaning at handover.

Clean gently once cured, monitor exposed coatings and arrange local repairs or maintenance before deterioration spreads.

Colour, light and material

French wash, limewash and decorative plaster.

From a subtle wash to hand-worked plaster, each direction has its own texture and care requirements. Start with the effect, then resolve the actual system.

Compare the finish, then the system.

This is a starting point for selection. Product specifications and site conditions determine the final recommendation.

From first inspection to final coat

Prepare carefully. Finish with intent.

New work and repainting follow the same principle: the finish must suit the surface beneath it.

  1. Assess

Review the existing coating, substrate, moisture, damage, access and interior or exterior exposure.

  2. Sample & agree

Confirm colours, sheen and decorative samples under the intended lighting, with scope and quote agreed.

  3. Prepare

Protect the space, complete agreed repairs and stopping, sand, clean and prime for the selected system.

  4. Apply

Build the specified coats or plaster layers, allowing the necessary drying, weather windows and cure times.

  5. Review & care

Inspect against the agreed scope and sample, complete touch-ups and hand over cleaning and maintenance guidance.

Useful before we start

Your questions, answered.

Can you handle plastering and painting as one package?

Yes. We can coordinate GIB stopping, skim coating, agreed repairs, preparation and painting within one scope, or price a focused part of the work. The condition of the substrate and the desired final finish determine the preparation required.

What is the difference between skim coating and Level 5?

Skim coating is an application process. A Level 5 plasterboard finish is a specified overall result that also relies on framing, lining installation, joint treatment and consistent surface texture and porosity. A skim coat alone does not correct every substrate defect or guarantee a flawless appearance under critical light.

Do you paint exterior walls, roofs and fences?

Yes. We assess the substrate, existing coating, exposure and access, then select a compatible preparation and coating system. Roof repairs, leaks, corrosion and damaged boards are identified separately; painting is not a substitute for necessary building repairs.

Can decorative plaster be used outdoors or in a shower?

Only where the specific system is documented for that application. Many decorative plasters and washes are intended for interiors or non-direct-water areas. A sealer or concrete-like appearance does not make a finish a waterproofing system. We confirm the location and product requirements before specifying.

Will the finished surface match the website image exactly?

The images are AI-generated concepts showing a general direction. Colours, texture, sheen and hand-applied movement vary with the product, lighting and application. Decorative work is agreed against a physical sample rather than a screen image.

Can you repaint an older property or work in stages?

Yes, subject to the condition and safe access. We review existing coatings and defects, protect retained areas and plan drying and access around occupants or business use. Suspect lead paint, asbestos-containing materials or persistent damp requires assessment before sanding or removal.

What affects painting and plastering costs in Auckland and NZ?

Surface condition, area and height, repair work, coating compatibility, access equipment, protection, decorative samples, coat build-up and working hours all affect the scope. Exterior work also depends on suitable weather. We identify allowances and exclusions before work is agreed.

Which areas do you cover?

We serve customers across New Zealand, with Auckland projects prioritised. Site visits, travel, access and scheduling are agreed to suit the project location and scope.
