Flooring quotes

Flooring Installation Cost in NZ: Compare the Whole Scope

A flooring price is useful only when you know what it includes. For a home, shop or office in New Zealand, separate the selected floor from the preparation and installation work before comparing quotes.

The short answer

To compare flooring installation quotes in New Zealand, separate the flooring product from removal, substrate preparation, installation and finishing. Confirm the measured area, supply arrangement, access and GST basis. Ask which items are fixed and which depend on inspection or uplift. Drying, curing and any product-specific requirements should be included when agreeing when the space can be used.

01

Start with a measured flooring brief

Area and layout

List each room or zone in square metres and include a sketch or plan. Record stairs, columns, doorways and changes in level separately. The measured floor area and the quantity ordered are not necessarily the same: layout, cuts, pattern and spare material need to be allowed for.

Existing floor and substrate

Identify the current covering and what is beneath it, if known. Send photographs of transitions, damage and uneven areas. Ask what inspection is needed to confirm moisture, flatness and the preparation required for the selected flooring system.

Use and finish

Describe foot traffic, cleaning, furniture, noise requirements and the look you want. Include the exact product if already chosen. A timber floor, vinyl plank, carpet tile and ceramic tile have different preparation, fitting and finishing scopes; comparing only a square-metre rate can hide those differences.

02

Separate installation only from supply and installation

Both options are available through AMING. The quote should make the responsibilities clear before materials are ordered.

Installation only

If you are supplying the flooring, send the product name, installation instructions, quantities and expected delivery date. Agree who provides underlay, adhesives, trims and stair nosings. Confirm who checks the delivery and how shortages, damaged packs or incompatible materials will be handled.

Supply and installation

Ask for the product specification, approved sample, quantity allowance and expected availability alongside the labour and preparation. Confirm delivery, storage and protection arrangements. Check whether final measurement is needed before an order can be placed.

Product and workmanship responsibilities

Ask who handles product questions and installation follow-up, and request the applicable product and workmanship terms. The responsibilities should be clear for your chosen supply arrangement; do not assume every product carries the same care requirements or cover.

03

Compare the inclusions line by line

Removal and preparation

Check whether the price includes uplifting the existing floor, disposal, removal of adhesive, local repairs, levelling and any specified moisture treatment. Identify provisional allowances and what will be confirmed after uplift. Preparation discovered later should have an agreed approval process.

Finishing and adjacent work

Include thresholds, edges, skirtings, stairs and transitions to neighbouring surfaces. Record who moves furniture or equipment, adjusts doors where necessary, protects completed work and cleans the area for handover. These items can materially change the total scope.

Auckland and regional access

For an Auckland apartment or commercial tenancy, record loading access, lifts, parking and permitted work hours. For projects elsewhere in NZ, agree site measurement, freight, travel and storage arrangements. Compare quotes using the same access assumptions and check whether totals include or exclude GST.

04

Agree a programme before setting a move-in date

Sequence the work

Ask how removal, inspection, preparation, installation and finishing fit together. Include any product-specific acclimatisation, drying or curing requirements in the programme. An installation date alone does not establish when the floor can take normal traffic, furniture or equipment.

Keep occupied areas usable

If the home or business stays open, discuss work zones, access routes, noise and when furniture can move. Small staged areas may need a different programme from one clear, empty floor. Confirm which other trades must finish before flooring starts.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you give a fixed NZ flooring price per square metre?

A reliable price needs the product, layout, existing condition, preparation and access requirements. A headline rate may exclude removal, levelling, trims or delivery. AMING scopes the work before confirming a quote rather than presenting one rate as suitable for every floor.

Can AMING install flooring that I have already bought?

Yes. Installation-only enquiries are welcome. Share the product, quantities, instructions and site details so suitability, preparation and any additional materials can be reviewed before an installation is agreed.

Can I request a flooring quote outside Auckland?

Yes. We serve New Zealand, with Auckland projects prioritised. Include your town or site address so measurement, travel, freight and installation scheduling can be considered in the scope.
